Farm/Market Crew

Website Sungrounded Farm

FARM / MARKET CREW EMPLOYMENT-
Join us in the field to plant, weed, harvest, wash and pack our organically grown produce. We are a small, diversified farm in Terrebonne, central Oregon, and expect our crew to be proficient and efficient in many tasks. We will provide training for all tasks, but there’s a lot to learn on a diversified farm so attention to detail and commitment to improving speed and quality of work are key. We are primarily a market farm and prefer employees that will be able to work some Wednesday or Saturday Bend, OR markets. We feel that crew participation in markets makes the work we do on farm more rewarding and meaningful, and also provides a nice work balance. Must be able to work well with others as well as well as individually.

Full Time Farm Crew (seasonal)- Apr 25- Nov 13

Application deadline Jan 31, 2021

38-40 hrs/week main season; part-time (~24 hrs/wk) after markets and CSA end mid-October.
We work M-F early and late season, and Tues-Sat during Saturday Market season (mid Jun-late Sep).
Starting at $13/hr DOE, pay increases available for returning a second season.
3 Personal Days off during season, not including sick time, approved in advance.
Veggies and Eggs
Season completion bonus

Primary Tasks:

Harvest- During the main part of our season, the majority of our time is taken up by harvesting, washing and packing produce. We generally harvest most of the morning, come into the barn to wash and pack the produce, and then often go back out in the afternoon to get ‘fruits’ like tomatoes and peppers. We require our team to be efficient and focused especially during this time. We move quickly through many tasks, but there is also repetition.
Farmer’s Market- this position will likely attend all Wednesday markets and some Saturday markets. Meeting at the Farm or at Markets is flexible, depending on where the employee lives. Will be responsible for help setting up and breaking down market booth, maintaining produce display, helping customers and keeping everything running smoothly.
Farm tasks: Cultivation (weeding), Transplanting, Pruning, Trellising, Crop Removal, and Crop Care are all tasks we do on a regular basis.

Qualifications:

Farming experience preferred but not required. Farming is hard work and we need you to be prepared for that!
Ability to lift 40-50 pounds and work bent over for extended periods of time.
Must be able to commit to completing the season.
Ability to work well with teammates, but also be able to keep motivated and efficient on your own. We work together often, but because we are a small farm we often do smaller tasks individually and come back together for larger tasks.
Good attention to detail and willingness to focus and learn. We will train you on all tasks but expect you meet quality and efficiency standards, as harvest lists for market days are long!
Positive attitude is key, as a negative one can bring the team down when things get hard, hot or cold.
Proficient at quick mental math- we do all our market tallying in our heads.

Farm work isn’t for everyone, but we find it very grounding and rewarding.  If you’d like to apply, please fill out this application and send a resume (including past employment) with two references (one being an employer) to sungrounded@gmail.com.
