Stone’s Throw Farm is located on a 50 acre beautiful piece of land with 2 acres in production using low till, intensive, and organic methods. We grow at 2,400’ elevation in the Sierra Foothills. Stone’s Throw produces a wide range of vegetables, berries and cut flowers for our Farmers’ Market, grocery, restaurant and wholesale accounts. Our goal is to grow our business to fill more of the local demand for fresh, local and organic produce without expanding our acreage beyond what is needed; grow with intention.
This year we are adding an on-site farm stand to serve our local community and we are increasing the scale of our existing accounts. We are looking forward to a great and energetic crew for 2020!
The 2020 crew will be joining our second year crew member as well as Steven and Bryanna, owner/operators. We’re looking for hardworking, self-motivated, and good-humored individuals to join our farm crew for the primary season April to November. Applicants must have prior farm or closely related work experience.
Primary tasks include harvesting crops, transplanting, spreading compost, amending, weeding, seeding, market prep/farmers market, washing and packing produce, driving deliveries, working on-farm events and more. Potential to work and learn in the flower field.
Spring can be cold and rainy. Summer can be very hot, dry and sometimes smokey with temperatures in the 90s and occasionally spiking to over 100. Summer days start very early and farm tasks can be strenuous and repetitive. We build our team around systems and communication. We need our team to trust each other and communicate early and often to get through those long hot tomato harvest days with optimism and energy.
Prior farm experience is required. Our goal is to impart skills, passion, farming knowledge gems and a sense of belonging and joy on our farm. We ask for a worker who can strive to achieve the highest potential for efficacy and efficiency. A person who can ask for help and receive support. We need a team minded person who can also take on solo tasks without getting lost in the weeds.
1 year of prior farming experience.
Applicants should be able to work hard and efficiently in all weather.
Comfortably lift 30+lbs.
Enjoy repetitive tasks.
Have a valid drivers’ license.
Although we keep the work varied, farming is inherently challenging. Ideal candidates are committed to the farming lifestyle and all that it entails.
COMPENSATION & EXPECTATIONS
Competitive hourly rate.
Potential on-farm housing. Couples will be considered.
Our workweek is Monday through Friday. We average a 30-40 hour work week over the season. Depending on the workload and weather hours may vary and are not guaranteed. We participate in a Saturday market and can offset a weekday for a crew member willing to support the stand.
