Farm Assistant/ Job Share

Puma Springs Vineyards

Unique opportunity for the right person to join a stand out farm.  (1) Basics – Join in to complete farm maintenance tasks on this 15 acre certified organic vineyard, clean out and care for layer chickens and small livestock. Plant a vegetable here and there. Run an errand, complete a task, clean out a compost tea tank. Bring your work hard, work smart skills here. (2) Dynamics- Put on your analysis cap and apply the best principles of organic farming. Because, good farming is based on nature’s principles, and principles influence practices. If you already know the key differences between industrialized ag and regenerative ag, then this is a good fit for you. Join us in our advanced IPM program and Carbon Farming practices. (3) Disclaimers- It gets more complicated. You want to farm for a living, right? So, this is no different. This is a base job providing you 1-2 days per week of work. You will take a lead in finding your second farm job in the area where you will work another 3-4 days per week ( we have some good possibilities for you). Why? (4) The Whole Picture- With your five days per week farm employment, you will qualify to join an established two year Farm Manager Apprentice Program. In this program, you will take a small course load of academic or technical classes to help you further your career. We will be your onsite farming mentors during this period. Your classes will be paid for.  Interested and excited about that? Then, lets step back, figure out the nuts and bolts, and see how it might work.

If you feel you are the right person for this opportunity, let’s have a conversation. It takes a person who can both work well with their hands, efficiently, and step back to look at the bigger picture inherent to the relationships between nature and the farm function; and one that can take a lead in the “Dynamics” section mentioned above . It starts with the basics- ready to work, self-starter, good logic, great organizational skills, and an open mind. If you’ve read The Lean Farm, then you have a sense of what we are trying to do.

The salary range for this position is $18-$20 per hour. There is no housing provided.
