Website Occidental Arts & Ecology Center
The Occidental Arts & Ecology Center (OAEC) is an 80-acre research, demonstration, advocacy and organizing center in Sonoma County, California that develops strategies for regional-scale community resilience.
This is a unique opportunity to live and work in a thriving land-based community and non-profit from February through mid-December 2021. Interns participate in all aspects of community life and work 25 hours per week in exchange for a private cabin to live in and use of OAEC facilities. This residential position focuses on maintaining and improving the infrastructure at OAEC. Tasks vary from the simple, quick basic repairs to multi-week construction projects. While much of what we do is functional in its approach, we do not pass up an opportunity to employ an artistic sensibility in our work. This year’s Facilities Intern will have the unique experience of helping in the reconstruction of our historic barn which burned down in Spring 2020.
We seek individuals who embrace living simply in a semi-rural community. Applicants should be flexible, energetic, comfortable in groups, and able to manage a diversity of challenges. Prior experience is not necessary, but a good sense of humor, communication skills, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn are a must.
Priority application deadline is November 1st, 2020. Applications will be accepted until November 15th. Early application is encouraged! Visit our website https://oaec.org/internship/facilities-internship for more details and to download the application.
