Farm Crew

Website Nye Ranch

Mendocino Coast market farm growing in harmony with soil & sea.

Nye Ranch is located on a historic 6 acre property with 1 acre in year-round production. Our methods focus on biologically intensive, regenerative no-till market farming techniques, situated 1,200′ from the Pacific Ocean on the Mendocino Coast.  We are located just 2 miles North of downtown Fort Bragg in Northern California.  Nye Ranch grows a wide array of annual vegetables, strawberries, and specialty cut-flowers.  We have a deep appreciation for the land and sea, with our farm certified through the Mendocino Organic Network’s “Mendocino Renegade” Program.

Despite our small scale we grow an amazing diversity with over 60 individual vegetable varieties and 100 flower varieties. We are committed to growing delicious nutrient dense food and sustainable colorful blooms. We sell our produce and flowers at 2 weekly Farmer’s Markets in Fort Bragg and Mendocino, our onsite Farm Stand with Highway 1 frontage, as well as to chefs, grocery stores and through our local wholesale food hub. To maximize production, sustainability, fertility and efficiency we incorporate cover crops, compost, compost tea, landscape fabric, crop rotations, native plant pollinator hedgerows and intensive spacing.  The farm has a private path to MacKerricher State Park which has beautiful beaches, tide-pools, cute seals, pine forests, whale watching and a seaside bike path to the charming & quaint town of Fort Bragg.

We’re looking for hardworking, self-motivated, and good-humored individuals to join our farm crew for the primary season April-November, with the opportunity to join our year-round team! Applicants must have prior farm experience.

Learn our methods of regenerative & biologically intensive market farming! Primary tasks include harvesting crops, transplanting, spreading compost, pruning, amending, weeding, seeding, broad-forking, market prep/farmers market, washing and packing produce, driving deliveries, working on-farm events and more.  Potential to work and learn in the flower field.

Although always overwhelmingly beautiful, the mornings can be cold, wet, foggy and/or windy even in the height of summer with our temperate maritime climate. The Mendocino Coast is picturesque, rugged and wild. Average temperatures are only 60-70F spring-fall and the tasks are often strenuous and repetitive, so we aim to build a team that works together to maintain a positive working environment.

Prior farm experience is required.  Our goal is to support and nurture your understanding, skills, and appreciation for local, sustainable agriculture, with opportunities to continue to grow with the farm.  Must enjoy people, hard work, good conversation, vegetables(!), and also have the ability to work alone and be self-motivated. We are looking for individuals who are serious about farming as a career! This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who is ready to take on the challenge and responsibility of farming.

We are looking for individuals who are organized, curious, outgoing and personable, and very motivated.

~ 1+ year of prior farming experience.

~ Applicants should be able to work hard and efficient in all weather.

~ Comfortably lift 50+lbs.

~ Enjoy repetitive tasks.

~ Have a valid drivers license.

Although we keep the work varied, farming is inherently challenging. Ideal candidates are committed to the farming lifestyle and all that it entails.

$15/hour + (D.O.E), plus produce (includes fresh vegetables, fruit and flowers).

~ Potential room for rent on-farm.

Workdays are typically Tuesday through Saturday, 8 hours per day. We average a 30-40 hour work week over the season, depending on the workload hours may vary.
