Blossom's Biodynamic farm is looking for a farm assistant
The farm assistant assists with the management of a 17 acres biodynamic herb and vegetable farm. Helping with/feeding livestock and working with compost are part of the requirements. We are looking for someone who loves working with plants and animals. We are in transition to a new farm – carpentry skills a plus. This is a seasonal position that can turn into long-term relationship.
The farm assistant has a thorough understanding of agriculture concepts and techniques. Knowledge of Biodynamics a plus but not a requirement.
The farm assistant will be responsible for implementing and updating the daily field management plan as directed by the manager. This includes maintenance, planting, transplanting, harvesting and processing such as essential oil distilling, and herb dehydration – with a team of 1-2 part time employees and volunteers.
The farm assistant is a motivated, team-oriented, quick learning self-starter and pro-active creative thinker. This role is field based (no office). The farm assistant must be a strong leader with good communication and organizational skills and a goal-oriented team player.
2+ years of farm work experience.
Excellent communication skills.
Organizational, prioritization and follow-up skills with strong attention to detail.
Strong critical thinking and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
Ability to work overtime hours, as necessary.
Follow and update field management plan daily.
Assist in overseeing temporary and hourly employees as needed.
Inventory and request ordering supplies needed for field management.
Maintains daily reports.
Comply with all company policies, procedures, and protocols.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organisational and follow-up skills.
Excellent time management skills.
Driver’s license required.
Must be able to communicate in English.
Ability to use equipment such as tractor, chain saw and weed whacker operation.
Assists with various duties as assigned by the owners.
Physical working conditions include bending and physically strenuous field work. Lifting up to 75lbs. Frequent walking. Will include continuous use of hands for repetitive tasks. The farm assistant will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
