•• Seeking Part-time Farmer/Gardener for Rural Community Property in Sonoma Valley (Possible Housing) ••

We are seeking a wonderful community-minded farmer/gardener with skills & experience in organic or biodynamic farming & gardening to help us tend and develop our low-to-no-till 1/8 acre organic garden. We are located in Sonoma Valley mid-way between Sonoma and Santa Rosa. Ideally this position would start sometime this in early April on a trial basis for 1-2 months, then, with growing trust, joy and mutual fit, it would extend to a longer period through the summer and fall. After a successful first year (spring to fall), this position would ideally become year-round and/or be able to expand in hours.

Our garden was established in 2018 and so far has about 1/8 acre currently planted (annuals, some perennials and cover crops for soil-building) within a total fenced area of ¼ acre -meaning there’s room to grow! We are blessed with abundant water, weekly community gardening helpers, and a gorgeous truly one-of-a-kind location.

The farm & garden work would be for 2 mornings a week, with additional self-scheduled time as needed, totaling roughly 10-11 hours/wk on average. The pay/reciprocity for this position is negotiable and DOE and comes with all-you-can-grow-and-eat garden produce as well as access/enjoyment of onsite community amenities. Duties would include but not be limited to planning out, starting and maintaining seasonally rotating crops (direct sow & greenhouse-started); seed & supply procurement; helping with any garden planning & infrastructure improvement projects; organic/humane pest abatement; as well as guiding & demonstrating farming skills/tasks to weekly community helpers, and, post-COVID, anchoring larger volunteer work parties 1-2x/month. You will need the use of your own car.

Our garden feeds our small onsite community and, during the summer only, one hyper-local organic restaurant so far, but we’d love to see this grow one day. So you’d be part of coordinating and supplying some seasonal garden produce to that cafe for the summer months (roughly May-Sept). The garden is currently managed by an amazing human who will be traveling out-of-state from early May until the fall, so you would be mainly under her guidance, learning the ropes from her and supporting her until her departure.

For the right person and fit, there is also the possibility of onsite living as part of the package of exchange and reciprocity. Please inquire if interested!

Extra Considerations for COVID Times:
While the duties of this position can be done entirely socially-distant from those of us living onsite, during these challenging pandemic times we’re looking for someone who is self-motivated in maintaining their own strict COVID protocols within a low-risk pod of few-to-zero non-socially distanced outside contacts. At the very least you must be comfortable and willing to easily maintain a fairly rigorous COVID protocol for the duration of the trial period of March/April, or until we all have a better sense of where this pandemic is headed as we move toward summer, whichever is sooner (we can’t wait for this to be over)!

About Us:
We are a family-oriented, tight-knit, land-based community with 7 humans currently living onsite year-round together (6 adults- 3 are elders, 1 child). We also have several others who live nearby that come regularly to participate in activities, service work, land tending and other gatherings. We generally spend our days working outside, playing with the kids, or working from home with our onsite business, and we enjoy sharing meals 1-3 nights a week, often with a game night sprinkled in here and there. We’re committed to tending our relationships and continually learning with regular practices such as holding councils, group meditation, study groups, self-inquiry and compassionate communication. Normally both larger community potlucks and simple social gatherings with friends are a regular part of our community’s heartbeat, but during pandemic times we’ve been fairly strict with our COVID protocols and have hunkered down especially in the last months.

We are a community that shares a deep love and dedication to both personal and community practices that support regenerative, earth-based, socially just, and somatic/trauma-informed healing. We have backgrounds in organizational development, biology/ecology, addiction counseling, hospice, dance, yoga & movement therapy, art & design, as well as music teaching, performance and music therapy. We’re passionate about regenerative economies as well as ecological and watershed stewardship, and we are committed to increasing equity & access, healing systems of domination and oppression, and centering diversity and inclusivity in all that we do. Our ideal long-term fit, especially if in-residence, would be someone who shares our values and would not only love to participate in many of our activities but would find them deeply enriching and a meaningful addition to their life.

If you or someone you know might be a great fit for us, please email us!

::: PS – We’re also currently looking for a part-time kidcare person for our 1-3 kid outdoor nature-based playgroup, just in case there’s a dynamic duo out there who may fit this double playbill. : ) :::
