Root 64 Sacramento is a 1-acre urban farmstead in the Tallac Village neighborhood of Sacramento. We consciously grow food for our local community, using ecological methods to build and maintain healthy soil and to support a vibrant farm ecosystem.
Our practices include:
No chemical applications: our inputs include OMRI listed compost, animal manures, & Diatomaceous Earth for pest control
Soil preparation using a small walk-behind tractor & tarps
Manual cultivation: weed control using hoes & other hand tools
Cover cropping & crop rotation
Interplanting for efficient use of space & high diversity
Shade cloth for season extension
Drip irrigation for efficient water use
Native & insectary plantings
