Farm to Market
CAFF’s Bay Area Region promotes regional Buy Fresh Buy Local (BFBL) branding and farmer marketing services through the Bay Area’s Regional Guide and by working with produce distributors and aggregators throughout the region.

Farm to School/Hospital
CAFF’s Bay Area Region provides technical assistance to school food service authorities, works with hospitals on local procurement of fruits and vegetable and the center of the plate options, and increases knowledge of and access to locally grown specialty crops in school cafeterias.

Program Highlights
  • CAFF helped to create a branded “local stir fry mix” which draws 70% of its ingredients CAFF farmer members. During the summer of 2014, Bay Area Hospitals purchased over 1,100 pounds of the mix.
  • Farm to Cafeteria Local Procurement provides over 84,000 pounds of locally grown fruits and vegetables to area hospitals.
  • CAFF assisted 3 school districts (Oakland Unified School District, Riverside Unified, and San Diego Unified) in procuring local chicken from Mary’s Chicken. Combined, the school districts now purchase nearly 2,000 pounds of chicken from Mary’s each month.
