CAFF’s Central Coast Region provides support and technical assistance to farmers in developing food safety plans and accessing different markets, as well as CSA membership and retention support.
Farm to School
CAFF’s Central Coast region increases knowledge of and access to fresh, healthy, locally-grown food in school cafeterias through assisting food service authorities with local procurement and marketing, delivering Harvest of the Month Tasting Kits to teachers, and providing educational programs directly to students.
- HOTM brings local food/nutrition education to over 3,000 students annually. Tasting kits deliver produce from 11 local farmers to over 100 classrooms.
- CAFF is currently working with over 12 food service directors to procure more local fruits and vegetables in schools.
- FoodCorps service members teach direct agricultural education lessons and promote food in the local cafeteria, reaching over 300 students each month.
- Food safety workshops have reached over 110 farmers and provided GAP training/certificates to 85 participants.
