From the FieldNorth Coast Report:Kevin made a weekend out of Earth Day, helping out at the Berkeley Farmer’s Market and also setting up a table for Sebastopol’s Whole Foods/Farmer’s Market Earth Day event. Several chapter members helped with the outreach, netting increased interest in CAFF as well as a couple new members. Wendy Krupnick took the CAFF table top display and related materials to the Ocean Song Earth Day Festival on April 27, an event that was well attended despite frigid winds whipping off of the Pacific. Small Farms Initiative: We've been working closely with California Farmlink and the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District to select and assist small-scale farmers in setting up operations on public lands. The chapter is helping to create significant opportunities for community-oriented growers to expand their operations with affordable leases. Keith and Kevin have shared the work of helping the Open Space District with the grower selection process, and participating in meetings with the Open Space District, Farm Link, Select Sonoma, and the mayor of Rohnert Park on how best to deal with neighbor concerns near the Rohnert Park farm site. The chapter has also started working on a letter to send to potential donors for the Fundraising and Membership Drive and negotiating a new office space closer to downtown. |
