Gwen Huff now in Fresno doing more organizing in the southern San Joaquin Valley, Russ Hill has assumed the responsibility of facilitating the chapter meetings. His March 18 meeting was attended by newly elected Modesto City Councilman and activist Denny Jackman, along with the eleven or so core chapter members. Russ intends to make increasing member participation in chapter meetings a priority.

Charlie and Sally Magnuson hosted the April 15 chapter meeting. Topics included CAFF’s Merced River watershed work, executive director search, hedgerow and habitat work, the Heartland Conference, chapter expansion, gravel mining operations and issues surrounding the proposed operation. The chapter voted to send a letter to the Merced Board of Supervisors elaborating the chapter’s problems with accepting the adoption of new mineral resource zones that directly impact farming.
