Farm- to School projects highlighted at CAFF's June Gala
CAFF's third annual Gala at the T. S. Glide Ranch showcased exciting new Farm to School projects for local families and community members.
Parents, community leaders, and school personnel from Yolo and Sacramento counties relaxed during a very warm afternoon of fun and discussion about these projects and the importance of local food. Lois Wolk, Yolo County Supervisor of District 2, and Deborah Beall, Nutrition Education Consultant from the California Department of Education's "A Garden in Every School" Program and Winters LEAF (Linking Education, Agriculture, and Food services) project were featured speakers.
The afternoon also included discussion of the importance of a food ethic in making local food connections and a slideshow on school salad bars. There were children's activities, a local storyteller, seasonal food, cooking demonstrations, live music, beverages and a silent auction.
The event was highlighted by the presentation of CAFF's Sustainable Farmer of the Year Award to John Lagier of Lagier Farms in Escalon.
