CAFF’s Harvest of the Month Tasting Kits deliver farm fresh produce to school classrooms where teachers take the lead on food and farming education. The program encourages students to increase their consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables by connecting them to California family farmers through taste tests and in-class lessons. Each kit contains enough seasonal produce for an average size class to taste, a farmer profile, an identification sheet and a Network for a Healthy California nutrition education newsletter. CAFF hosts teacher trainings at the beginning of every school year to familiarize teachers with the program and demonstrate how it can be best integrated into their classrooms.
“Your program is of such a benefit to our curriculum. We are able to utilize it in all subject areas. The added benefits are that it is hands-on, ‘taste-on’, and healthy. What more could we ask for?”- Teacher, Sunnyvale School District
