Supported in part by AmeriCorps, FoodCorps works with host sites in 17 states to provide service members to schools and nonprofits. In 2013, CAFF had the honor of being selected as the CA Host Site for FoodCorps, in partnership with Life Lab. Our service members serve an 11-month term, focusing on nutrition education, school gardens and local procurement in school cafeterias and other farm to school-related programs.
This is FoodCorps’ fourth year of operating, and their second year in California. As a result of our partnership, we have deployed 15 amazing and enthusiastic service members at 12 service sites throughout the state for the Program Year of 2014-2015, and will be in the process of selecting our next class service members for the 2015-2016 year.
Additionally, we also have a FoodCorps fellow in CAFF’s Oakland office who supports service members, acts as a bridge between FoodCorps’ national staff and statewide (CAFF & Life Lab) staff, and supports CAFF’s statewide movement-building, including the California Farm to School Network. You’ll see amazing updates from California FoodCorps service members and our fellow in our blog and newsletter and hear about what they’re up to each month.
