The Community Alliance with Family Farmers is a non-profit organization dedicated to building a movement of rural and urban people to foster family-scale agriculture that cares for the land, sustains local economies, and promotes social justice.

The Growers’ Collaborative, an LLC wholly owned by CAFF, is a social venture business that works to connect large kitchens with source-identified produce from family farms in their area.  Growers’ Collaborative is a fast-growing and energetic company in search of individuals committed to supporting family farms and bringing healthy produce into schools, universities, hospitals, business offices and low income communities.

Description:

Fast growing social venture produce-distribution company, a project of a non-profit organization, seeks a motivated and dynamic individual.  Desired applicants are passionate and creative, with an ability to problem solve and instill confidence in others. Qualified applicants are highly detail oriented, effective communicators, have experience with produce production, packing, distribution, and marketing. The ideal candidate will have experience with QuickBooks and familarity with small to mid-scale farming operations in California. This is a great opportunity to grow with a business with a strong social scope, work with a small team of two to three people, and support family farms in Northern California.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain contact with 20 – 50 local growers to discuss crop availability, pack style, and prices
  • Prepare availability lists for customers according to customer needs and grower’s availability
  • Prepare all invoices, purchase orders, and bills of lading in QuickBooks.
  • Prepare a weekly schedule based on projected sales volume and workload.
  • Coordinate delivery routes with regional manager and driver(s).
  • Build strong and trusting relationships with growers.
  • Maintain and develop introductory and other materials as needed for growers.
  • Additional responsibilities include: the recruitment of family farmers; infrastructure development; and increased efficiency of logistical processes.

 

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Resourceful and able to perform a variety of administrative and organizational tasks with a creative approach to problem solving
  • Ability to thrive in a detail-oriented environment, exhibit flexibility, work on multiple tasks simultaneously and adjust to competing priorities
  • Mac and PC proficiency

Salary and benefits:

The Growers’ Collaborative provides a benefits package that includes 15 days of paid vacation per year, a benefit stipend, holidays, and flexible scheduling for full time employees.
